  • Thanks Jay. I'm putting it at the top of my Xmas list, trouble is I'm paying for everything on that list.
  • It's just been mentioned on BBC1's Six O'clock News.
  • There is a piece about it on Radio 2 at the mo.
  • One of my sons saw the news item yesterday on the BBC and commented. No he wouldn't want one, he likes books, turning the pages and the feel of the book.
    Awww.

    Amazon launches e-book reader

Is it the end for books?
  • Nope, certainly not the end for books, technology enhances their life. I don't like the look of the Kindle; just marginally clunkier than the original Sony Reader before they brought out their new versions last month. Towards the end of the radio interview they mentioned something about writers directly receiving the money for book downloads, I think, but the volume wasn't very good, so I could have misheard. If this is the case, then e-readers should finally take off, and I can't wait to get my paws on one to enhance my reading experience, but I'll still buy books.
  • I agree with that Dudess. They said radio would kill the theatre, then TV to end cinema, then video to end cinema etc, etc. People love choice and use and adjust technology to suit their needs. New inventions are enhancements that live side by side of existing formats, not the end of them.
  • I can't imagine I would ever use it. But I said the same about having a PC at home, the internet and then broadband too.
