Just book sales really i think. At the events. But the effect of events like this aren't only immediate... it's goodwill as much as anything isn't it, generating an audience, contact and being seen to support children's literature in general. I think the authors comment at the end says a lot.

However, I do agree that the festival formats should change - authors just coming and talking about book their new book is so boring... these events should be fun, but of course, that takes more money.
