Two Tales

edited April 2014 in Writing
A desperate, and wealthy, writer intrigued me with his display adverts in the The Times. He is 'honoured' to invite readers to a signing ceremony of his book 'Prospects for the American Age' today at the London Book Fair. I tried to get an idea of costs, which were over £1K plus per issue!
Contrast that with Eimear McBride who tried for over a decade to get her debut novel published. Not only did a small publisher, Galley Beggar Press, take her on, but it has been shortlisted for a prestigious prize in women's literature. Reminds me of Life of Pie published by a small publisher, Cannongate, when the big boys turned him down. I wonder how many of the wealthy author's books will be bought today, as a helluva lot must be sold to cover those advertising costs.
