    My elder daughter, when aged about three, would often open one of her little books, sometimes held upside down, and proclaim: "One day, Mother Pig..."

    "The Owl and the Pussycat went to sea . . "

    I had to read that every night for a year to my youngest - he was a creature of habit even when aged two - and woe betide me if I tried to hurry things along by missing a verse. For years afterwards I could recite the whole damn thing verbatim.
