Researching court cases for a short story

JenJen
edited May 2015 in Writing
I'm writing a story for my writers' circle competition but I've decided the events will unfold during a court case. How accurate does this need to be? Can anyone point me in the direction of researching this?
Thanks

  • You can probably get away with having only a few technical details, but those you do include should be accurate. Quite a lot of people will have been to court at some time and if you make a mistake they won't believe the rest of the story.

Watching a court case yourself should help with research.
  • Make sure you get the right type of court too. Magistrates or Crown.

This might help with general background information: http://open.justice.gov.uk/home/

  • Thanks, it's only for my writers' group but I don't want to seem like I haven't got a clue

You can always submit it somewhere afterwards.
