Hi, a newbie.

edited June 2015 in Writing
Hi, I've retired recently. I'm writing a novel, and want to submit it to a publisher who asks for three chapters, but specifies that they mustn't include chapter one. Has anyone any suggestions as to how to choose the chapters? Should it be the impact of the writing or will they want to know how the story hangs together? I'd love to know if anyone has any ideas. Thanks all. I'm looking forward to getting to know you better. Gordon

  • Hello Gordon.

Not heard that one before, usually it's the first three chapters and a synopsis.

Can you tell us which publisher it is? As someone may have info that will prove helpful.
  • Hi, Gordon. Welcome to Talkback.

I think I would send consecutive ones, maybe 2, 3 and 4 - or send a few from later in the book where some sort of climax takes place, but no idea if that's the right thing to do.

Maybe beginning, middle and end would give a clearer picture?

It's very unusual for a submission requirement.
