What does 'embed' mean?

edited November 2016 in Writing
I often see it as an option, but never click it. Where does it go?

  • It's a link - you put the link wherever you want to 'embed' what is linked - for instance, a video, you could 'embed' it on your website.
  • Oh. On my blog Twitter comes up at the side so why would I want to embed it?
  • What????
  • An embedded object is something created in one program and bunged into another.
  • I would imagine it is another word for insertion and can cover all manner of subjects. I was shot and the bullet embed itself into my shoulder. The arrow hit me hard but did not embed itself to cause permanent damage. The crown jewels sat embed with diamonds of all shapes and sizes.
  • The past tense would be embedded.
  • Thank you, HA, but I know that meaning!

I just wondered why my blog would ask me if I wanted to embed Twitter when my Twitter feed is already visible on the right-hand side.
  • Oh sorry, TN I had the same message a few months back, but now it does not ask me any more. Must be just a glitch.
