Lizy, I don't know how you manage to come up with your stories week after week with so much else going on. It is not easy to say so much with just 100 words. I thought this week you had a really unusual take on the prompt. Seeing the nature table took me back to school days and the wilting jar of catkins or shells from a trip to the seaside that generally resided on ours.
Thought I'd jump back on the Friday Fictioneer's bandwagon before I forget how to scribble 100 word stories. I ran with the first thought that came into my head and wrote this in super quick time (hope it doesn't show!).
Was getting bogged down in the detail of the latest article I was writing yesterday and the sunshine was beckoning so I popped out with the camera and focused my attention elsewhere. Came back refreshed and ready to go again after the break. A few thoughts shared on my blog here. http://www.adbwilliams.co.uk/blog/
Thank you, Lizy. I was particularly happy to find spindle as it is hard to track down these days. The walk - and the focus on nature - cleared the head for a new start.
You learn something new... as they say, Lizy. Spindle used to be a staple of hedgerows as it was used for the drop spindles used in hand spinning but with hedgerows disappearing it is much less common but it is beautiful, especially this time of year. Makes a good garden shrub.
Spindle is Euonymus europaea, Lizy. Be aware it can grow 10-12foot high if not contained as a hedge and although the birds love the berries they are poisonous. Something to bear in mind if there are young children likely to be around as the berries are so bright and attractive. The leaves go lovely shades of red and yellow this time of year but are rather overshadowed by the berries.
Visited the new Postal Museum in London at the weekend with a group of friends and have written a blog post about it. If anyone has postal workers in their family tree the archives are held at the same location. http://www.adbwilliams.co.uk/blog/
There's not much to comment on, but anyone else who's with Blogger and wishes to can say hello I've always kept comment moderation switched on as well, just in case anyone visits and wonders why their post isn't showing up.
Would love to see how you would develop your 100 word piece into a longer story, Claudia.
Thanks, Wordy - that's something to think about. I would have to decide whether he chose the location because he was tired of her being precious or whether he just has a weird sense of humour.

I hope Seaview reads that event, TN, brilliant.

I had so many different half-formed ideas that it took me 24 hours to decide which one to run with.

I did - and posted a haiku, C2!
Great reads up there, every one.
After seeing the carvings on the tree stumps I'm half tempted to learn this craft,
It's the mention of 'the last wood nymph' lovely Claudia.
Would be nice on some the gate posts.
The carving craft. I've just looked for some beginners books and tools, something to consider for in the new year.
Well, if you want them to have a good home, I'll be more than willing to purchase,
that's if you want to part with them.
