Triond publication

edited September 2009 in - Writing Tales
Inspired by febes, I too have subbed something to Triond. You can read it here - http://gomestic.com/gardening/bay-laurus-nobilis/ I have lots of similar articles looking for a home, so will be subbing them soon.

• Just seen the I like it marker.
Interesting- I didn't know some of those things about bay.
• Liked your article. You're obviously very knowledgable about such things.
• Thank you!

Yes, I am a bit of an anorak when it comes to herbs. Good to be able to use some of that knowledge.
• Good article. Yes you are very knowledgeable it seems PM :D
• That's really interesting, PM. Good luck with the response/income.

We have a marauding bay in our very small side garden that competes for space with a holly tree and a winter jasmine. I'd have thought them incompatible but they seem to get on well.

I use them all for making incense. Apparently the oracle at Delphi held a bay leaf underneath her tongue when she uttered her divinations. Tried it once - interesting...
• Let us know how you get on, Phots -always looking for another market.
• Thanks everyone. There are plenty of subjects I know nothing about, but when I get interested in something, I tend to try to find out as much as I can.

How do you make the incense, Lily? (You could write an article about that and sub to Triond)
• Making incense involves drying herbs and plants, and mixing them with gums like gum arabic, frankincense and myrrh. You can add a drop or two of essential oil if you're making it in advance. The best way to burn it is on charcoal discs. Add a little Orris root powder to stop the oils going rancid.

Pure frankincense - which comes as tiny sugary nuggets - is just bliss burnt alone. Very uplifting spiritually.

I've written several articles in the past about making incense. Maybe I'll dig them out. Thanks for the heads up!
• Kind of like pot pourri then? I sometimes use essential iols in a burner, but it had never occurred to me that I could make my own. Please let me know if you do publish those articles - I'd like to read them.
• Not really like pot pourri, no, as that's made up of large and loose ingredients. Incense is usually a sticky substance which you grind in a pestle and mortar. I choose the 'ingredients' according to the intention, but you always need a base gum - frankincense works best because it powders easily, plus some dried herbs or petals. Fresh herbs don't work so well, but I have used bay fresh because it has a low water content.

Sorry - got to go now, but you've really inspired me PM!
• Glad you're inspired, Lily.

Triond have published more of my articles. Here's another one. http://gomestic.com/cooking/how-to-grow-and-use-basil/

I've made it onto the 'hot users list' Presumably that's a good thing, but I don't know what I've done to deserve it!

I've used my real name - Patsy Collins
• Well done!

There's a thread on the Triond forum about it.
• There is? I'll go take a look - Thanks. There are some very dodgy posts on that forum, so I've not really had much of a look round.
• Agreed. You can get bogged down with it all, but I've read a couple of interesting posts about earnings etc.
• Putrid Pot - Yuch!
how come they smell nice when they're called 'Pot Pourri' ?
• nice one Phots, are you earning anything yet (sorry being nosy)
• We three, Phot's Moll, myself and Febes are scraping by. I've earned $0.23 for last month (although that was just for the last couple of days of September).

The good news is I've earned $0.06 so far in October!

• well done BB, will check out all of them, even might have a go myself.
• Niddy, we don't actually get paid until we've earned a certain amount (bit confused what that amount actually is, although I'm sure it was stated in the t&c's) My earnings are also less than $1 in total so far - we're not going to get rich unless we write thousands of articles, promote like crazy and are incredibly lucky.

Ceka, some things don't translate well, do they?
• Well done, PM. What with citizen journalism, it's lucky anyone gets paid!
• Thanks, Jay.

Triond isn't the place to sub anything that you think you could sell elsewhere, but if like me you've got lots of homeless pieces, it's a comfy place for them to beg for pennies.
• Will you have to pay commission on converting the dollars to pounds?
• There's a PayPal fee, but I don't think we need worry about it. The T & Cs state we need to earn $50 before we're paid. I don't think anyone's made $1 yet.
• My earnings this month are $0.23 making my overall earnings $0.38. Do you think I could buy a porsche with that?

I have had a nosey on the forums and most of them behave like they are 12! Find it rather annoying. I do go on occasionally when I am bored to see if there is anything of interest, but I try and keep out of it!
•
I have had a nosey on the forums and most of them behave like they are 12!
With serious emotional issues and without English as a first language (speaking other languages is fine, but if they're trying to make money from writing in English and it is their first language then they should make some attempt at getting spelling, grammar and punctuation right)

I've made just over a dollar. ;-) I've posted a lot of stuff though. Almost half my earnings have come from this http://therealowner.com/fish-aquariums/fishing-for-the-perfect-pet/
• http://www.triond.com/help/item/topic/earnings/name/is-there-minimum-payment

"Is there a minimum payment amount?

If payment is made through PayPal, the minimum payment is $0.50; if by check, the minimum payment is $50.00; if by Western Union, the minimum payment is $50.00. If, on any month, your revenues do not reach this minimum, the amount owed to you will be rolled over and added to next month's payment."

I've opted for payment by Paypal, so I should get paid next month. I'll let you know what happens.
• Phot's Moll, your flash fiction deserves to earn you loads!
• Just received $0.51 which has been converted to £0.29!
• Not a lot...
• LOL! No, but I don't have much on there and what there is, was already written.

I believe Phot's Moll is the winner!
• Yeah, I earned loads more than Baggy ...well, a few pence more at least. I've got a lot of (very) short stories up on the site (and keep adding more) but these too are ones I'd already written and wouldn't be able to sell anywhere, so I don't feel I've lost anything.

Seeing the comments people make, or that someone has clicked 'I like it' is a good moral boost when Take a Break, My Weekly etc send me yet another reject.
• You're right. No-one 'has' to click on that 'I like it' button. Nice when they do!
• Well you have both been paid almost enough for a stamp! Would you recommend others to get involved? It sounds as if you have have had fun doing it at least.
• I think we've already posted that it's not worth writing anything new for the site. We've just posted old articles and stories.

On that basis, it's been fun. I haven't posted anything new for ages - and the money's rolling in.

;)

One good point - their SEO is fantastic. So if you want to get a message out to the masses, use Triond.
•
Would you recommend others to get involved?
As with any 'market' it depends what you hope to achieve.

On the plus side - They approve work quickly (Unless it's complete gibberish with no punctuation and half ovf ift spelld wungerly, then it'll be accepted), publish it on an appropriate site and you will get some readers (and possibly feedback too) They reply to queries promptly and the author can amend or remove work almost instantly if they wish and pay the money they owe on time, so if you're considering publishing on-line then this is a good company to do it with.

On the minus side - Pay is very low and there's no kudos associated with having your work published on such a site, so if you think you could sell the work somewhere else, I'd suggest you try that first.
• If anyone is thinking of joining, you might like to consider letting one of us refer you - I believe we might make a small amount of money by doing that.
• I signed up this morning - before you posted that about referrals PM, soz. I posted this festive piece that I had lying around

http://quazen.com/shopping/beware-the-siren-of-nostalgia/

I do have discs full of unused stuff that I could maybe stick on there - I'm not expectingto make any money from it, previous posts have filled me in on that, but I am interested in how it works and what, if any, non-financial gains there are to be had from it.
• Sounds like you're perfect for Triond - good luck and I hope you get something from taking part.
• Hope it goes well CoS.
• Here's a link in case anyone else would like to register, http://www.triond.com/rw/254153

Not sure if Baggy Books or Febes have signed up for the referral system, but if so they might like to refer people too.
• Thanks for this, Phot's Moll.

I am going to register. Do you want to refer me and if so do I wait till you have done so or what ?
• I am in there as Stradlater
• OK cos - will take a look.
I just got to know about this from Phot's Moll on the Christmas Vegetarian Meal thread.
• Yeah I saw - I posted on there about triond too.

Good luck.
• Clicking this should refer you, Lexia. http://www.triond.com/rw/254153 You won't need to wait for me to do anything, but they seem to take longer to accept articles from new people (it'll probably only be a few days though) They don't accept absolutely every article, but anything that's written in something like good English, isn't pornographic and isn't copied from eleswhere on the internet will probably get published.

I earn about $5 a month, but I have quite a few articles on there.
