Anthology ideas wanted

edited August 2010 in - Writing Problems
I have spent a couple of hours trawling for publishers looking for short stories for anthologies. Does anyone have any suggestions, please? The stories I am looking to place are more general interest or women's market type ones that have not found a home in magazines. I'm looking for ideas of where to take them next.

So many of the anthologies that we hear about seem to be for specific genres- horror/fantasy, while the ones I've seen that accept general stories seem to be competition based.

Bridge House rings a bell for some reason.
  • Try http://www.duotrope.com/ I always find this helpful when looking for a market.
  • Chicken Soup for the Soul always want themed stuff for their latest anthology, but I have a feeling they usually want 'true' stories.
And there are the Sexy Shorts anthologies produced by Accent Press, but I don't know if you can submit to them or if they are by invitation only -Sexy Shorts for Summer has just gone into my suitcase as one of my holiday reads!
  • As Carol mentioned, Bridge House has an ongoing call for submissions - mostly they are for specific issues and are themed, but sometimes they have open ones.
