No unsolicited submissions

If a magazine says "No unsolicited submissions" on its masthead does that mean all their content is commissioned or written in house, or will they consider articles after first querying?

    It usually means they won't except anything just sent to them. If you query them first you may be asked to produce the item.
    Often it is a mixture of in house or commissioned, and you can't be commissioned if you don't query...:)
