Talkbackers e-publishing achievements

edited May 2011 in - Reading
Talkback has several threads where article writing, magazine stories, competition success etc., may be announced.
As individuals’ pursuit of e-publishing increases, it is becoming difficult to keep track of their progress. Thus I have taken the liberty of starting this thread and attempted to collate basic details of Talkbackers’ Kindle and Smashwords achievements.

Amazon offer free software for various electronic means of reading Kindle books.
http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/feature.html?ie=UTF8&docId=1000423913&tag=googhydr-21&hvadid=6408437766&ref=pd_sl_3y8089m9g0_e

These two threads contain compiled reference and resource for all those with ambition to follow growing success:

Details regarding refunds [Compliments of LilyC]:

Report tab. Under that you get Months to Date Unit Sales, you then get three options Kindle Sales US, Kindle Sales UK and Kindle Sales DE. Click on any of those to see your Sales figures. It gives you the Title, ASIN, Units Sold, Units Refunded and Net Units Sold.
If you published via Smashwords I'm not sure how this would work.

Here are the publications copied from various threads. All corrections and additions will be appreciated.

My husband has placed my memoir, The Find on Kindle (not quite finished doing it yet), as the poems contained in the book appear with a blank line between the lines of poetry.

The opening of this won the Swanwick children's comp in 2009 so if anyone read that when it was published in WM and wondered what happened to Lee ( Gary) now's your chance.

I can also turn my pocket novel into an ebook so can sell it on Amazon for Kindle (not sure how to do this yet - steep learning curve pending!).
[News awaited.]

Authors may announce their work here whilst starting a new thread about their publication in preferred category.

15 years ago, no one would have understood what your are saying.
Just popped into my head as I tried deciphering your message.

Amazing how quickly the language is evolving.
• Thank you, Jan. This is very helpful.

• Yes, congratulations.
• All done! Liked and tagged you all.

I dragged the information from MadeiranMaiden's thread, announcing her achievement here in line with purpose of this thread.
• Just posted on my Magenta Shaman thread about a new review...

This is the one that has come about by joining the Amazon Kindle Discussion Forum.
• Excellent idea putting all this together, Jan. It helps dinosaurs like me to increase their understanding.
Thanks.

Might also want to add my Amazon link now that it's up:

• Thanks for reminding me.

There doesn’t seem to be a Kindle edition of Best Gay Romance 2011 – I’ll ask the publisher what happened to the webpage – but each of these has a story of mine in it:

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Best-Gay-Romance-2009-ebook/dp/B001LF3Z82/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1306689260&sr=1-2

• I queried this with Amazon UK, and they've said they'll pass my comments on to the publisher.
• Good luck to everyone with their epublishing ventures. About time readers got to say what they want to read instead of publishers telling them what they should read.
• Publishers and booksellers do seem to be one and the same, though, don't they? Or, possibly, doesn't it?
• Another thread with relevant information?

http://talkback.writers-online.co.uk/comments.php?DiscussionID=179185&page=1#Item_2
• Better give the name of the thread - the link doesn't seem to take you to it. I think Webbo may have said how to amend the links that don't work (page 1s?), but I can't remember how to do it.
• If you remove the # onwards, the link should work I believe.
so what you're after is http://talkback.writers-online.co.uk/comments.php?DiscussionID=179185&page=1
The system falsely treats the "item_2" as superseding the link to a different page, and goes to item_2 on this page.
Godspeed, lovely techies, please give us our new Talkback now!
• ^ for Rosalie.
• Don't forget to post about your ebooks here!

Yes, lots of exciting opportunities opening up.
• Many congratulations Jane. Your book sounds lovely! I wish you much success.
• Here's the Amazon link to the zombie anthology in which I have two stories.

http://www.amazon.com/The-Infection-ebook/dp/B00579YH4O/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&qid=1309006934&sr=8-4

Here's the blurb about each of our tales...
http://infectionanthology.wordpress.com/the-tales-of-the-infection/
• Excellent, Seaview!
• Thanks LilyC!

BTW Just this minute I've had this email from the guy in the US who conceived the anthology...

"The Infection passed approval on Smashwords and is submitted to major e-book retailers. Expect to see it on BarnesandNoble.com, KoboBooks.com, Apple’s iBook Store, ebookstore.Sony.com, Diesel-ebooks.com, and Scrollmotion.com, and we’ve been up on Amazon.com for a few weeks now, and of course, Smashwords.com. Most of these places post new books on Thursday or Friday."

I take it that's good?!
• If they appear on those then it's good.
• Well done, Seaview. I love zombies.

• Good luck with it kateyanne, sounds fun!
• Congratulations, everyone.
• I think I am getting too old for all this technology as parts of this discussion are over my head. However I can report that I have had three ebooks published last year in the USA. The threads with Amazon are ( I think)
http://www.amazon.com/A-Fateful-Legacy-ebook/dp/B003L1ZU64/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1311415737&sr=1-1

http://www.amazon.com/The-Metro-Platform-ebook/dp/B003YUCDVM/ref=sr_1_4?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1311415737&sr=1-4

and if this is not what I was supposed to contribute I'm taking my toys home and having a big sulk before tea.

Hope all the ebook sales etc go well - whether you're author publishing or being publisher published ;)

After weeks of thinking about it, I've now ordered my kindle ebook reader. I just had kindle for pc. So excited! I went out and bought the cover to keep it in today.
• I've mastered Smashwords now, and am also waiting to see if I'll be included in the premium catalogue:

Sample or purchase Secrets in the Sand: http://www.smashwords.com/books/view/76757
•
Well done, Seaview. I love zombies
Well I didn't know I loved zombies until I got involved in this project...one of my two stories is about a group of young survivors set in the Mourne country in N Ireland where I've from, but the other one turned into a romance!!! - I kid you not...but at least she didn't fall for a zombie!!! :) :) :)
• Well done, you guys

Great - well done GF!

May well have to pick your brains. :) Is it e-book only or does Smashwords let you do print on demand too?
•
May well have to pick your brains. :) Is it e-book only or does Smashwords let you do print on demand too?
It's e-book only, as far as I'm aware. I think Lulu is print on demand but I have no experience of them.
• Congratulations all.
• After the recent scare about publications on Kindle being pirated, can I ask TBers if their Kindle publishing experience has been good so far?

Nothing has been stolen?

How are sales? (given that most industries are quiet in the summer period, but on the other hand this is the time of year people want something to read at airport/on beach etc).

It would be good to have your comments.
• With Magenta Shaman - no bad experiences, several 5*reviews but sales have completely dropped away. I'll flog it again when Episode 2 is due out.
