  • Was looking in the books section of the Times when I came across this article. Thought you might be interested.

  • I have now! I've just 'had my say', trying not to sound as if I've got an axe to grind. I'll let you know if it gets published.
  • I have now too, thanks Carol. It's frustrating that the gay bookshop is being put out of business, same happened with Silvermoon, which luckily then found a place within Foyles bookshop. I think the same is happening with lots of small independent bookshops, that they are being squeezed out by competition with supermarkets and chain bookshops, high rents and online selling.

It’s not just losing the place for selling gay books, but a venue for meetings, book groups etc. for gay people who don’t always want to go to pubs and clubs to socialise (like me). I’ll be sad to see it go.
  • Actually, it's only a small axe. No, I didn't mean that! As my books are print-on-demand, I know of only one bookshop - in Brighton - that said they'd buy a couple for stock. But all bookshops should be able to order them for customers.
  • I'm there! I'm there! I'm there! Excited? Moi?
  • No! No! No! It's gone before I even had time to print it out! Josie, quick - your comment is there.
  • By the way, thanks, Carol. You don't happen to know if comments are stored somewhere, or if they publish them in the newspaper?
  • Phew. Managed to save and print it somehow.
  • I know that if you have the web page address you can usually bring it up later on and it will usually show the comments that were given and used. Whether the revamp they had has changed that I don't know.
But well done getting your comments used.
They usually show the first four, and you click on the link to expand the comments to read the others.
I think it's important that bookshops like this continue, as main retailers like Waterstones only stock a certain amount of books in this genre. If you want one they don't have then you have to wait while they order it in. With this bookshop you would probably get it that visit.
  • yay, my comment is there.
