  • I've recently discovered this writer - you'll find her two books, 'How I Live Now' and 'Just In Case' in the young adult section of your bookshop, but you don't have to be a teen to enjoy them. Her writing is incredibly powerful, her characters are beautifully drawn, and although the stories are far from light, they are finally uplifting.

Both my 14-year-old daughter and I were in tears at the end of 'How I Live Now', not because there is anything sentimental in it, but because we cared so deeply about the characters.

The only problem is that her novels put me off writing...  because I don't believe I can produce anything that brilliant.
