  • Aren't they wonderful? I've taken to writing with the internet open (I don't have broadband so it also stops incoming calls!) at http://thesaurus.reference.com/ for the dictionary/thesaurus or http://www.rhymer.com/ for rhymes if I'm looking for alliteration etc. Also, isn't the Word synonym function just brilliant? There's so much instant support out there I feel pampered!
  • I agree Howard - great facilities.  Have you tied oxford.com (I'll check that's correct) another useful tool.
  • Hi Howard.
    Have a look at    http://www.dictionarylink.com/
It has links to all sorts of online dictionary, thesaurus, crossword solvers, etc.  I also use
http://www.rhymezone.com/  a lot when trying to find rhyming words for my poems.

When do you set off homewards for the holidays?
  • Thanks for the tips. I'll have a look.

(Hi HP! Off Saturday very early for 8 days. Can't wait!)
  • EIGHT DAYS off - wow!. It's all holidays for teachers! Thanks for the dictionary sites.
  • Yep! Life's a doddle, Stan; little work, no pressure, no accountability, loads and loads of dosh... ;D)
  • I'm in the wrong job!!!!
  • i use www.m-w.com which my ex pointed me towards
  • Now why would I want online dictionaries when I've got all these lovely paperback ones, that I can pick up, look through and find what I want, instead of changing the page etc? Sorry I'm a traditionalist.
  • I prefer the real books too, having about 20 various types of dictionary but the online ones come in handy sometimes.
  • HP - I've just been into the dictonarylink.com/ and had a wonderful time with the dreamdoctor.
  • Steady on, Dora!  What did you find out and will you be consulting him again?
  • Chuffing will HP!  Found out about trains. Woo Woo.
  • Dorothy, isn't a mantle much shorter than a cloak?
  • Carol, doesn't that depend on how long/short your legs are?
  • Oh, very funny Dora.
  • As a child I was always told to stop 'mantling' about. A Lincolnshire expression meaning stop getting in the way - I think. Wonder if there's any connection?

By the way there's also a rhyming dictionary which I find useful for writing poetry or slogans for competitions. Find it at: www.rhymezone.com

  • I've just discovered (forgive me if this is a Duh! moment) that my local library offers The Oxford Dictionary online. All I have to do is key in my libary number. This is great.
