  • Wow. I'm impressed. You have very good reviews too. Who'd you publish with?
  • BeWrite Books. The gay anthologies are done by Cleis Press in the USA.
  • And another mention on an Amazon forum (by someone called Monica):

The thought of having to do anything to promote my books myself has always been a bit of a scary thought to me, but my publisher Need2Know Books sends me copies of reviews they obtain for my two books 'Autism, a parent's guide' and 'Asperger's Syndrome, the essential guide'.

Since they were published 14 and 18 months ago they been reviewed in the national press (Times/TES), many parenting and health magazines, some of whom made available give-away copies of the books for a certain number of readers. Professionals from specialist autism organisations reviewed them in their publications or on their websites, a UK GP's information for patients website recommends them, the National Autistic Society website featured them and has the books in their library. I was also invited to be a guest on a web chat about aspergers/autism with professionals and parents. This was not as scary as radio because you have time to think before you type an answer or comment! N2K also got the books into many libraries and the number of loans over the last twelve months has been several thousand.

In addition the publisher provided me with extra copies for my asperger's/autism raising awareness project/fundraiser last year. I've done informal talks to local groups about autism/asperger's but I'm afraid I was too much of a coward to go on the radio.

The other thing I've have found has happened is that readers respond to the author’s website (and so contact details) if it’s on the cover or inside the book. People write, tell you about their own situations, ask stuff and can stay in touch for a long time. For me this has never happened before. It’s been quite an experience really ;)
  • In case Liz wants to add something. :)
  • I'll sneak in before Liz with my own reviews. http://www.amazon.co.uk/product-reviews/0956853587/ref=dp_top_cm_cr_acr_txt?ie=UTF8&showViewpoints=1
  • I just read from the front of this instead of going to bed and thought, I wish I'd known about this thread before... then got to the end and read Jay's comment! Thanks, Jay.

These are the ones on Amazon. One has been reposted from something else, a blog, don't know how that happens.
