"And now, the end is near..."
Yes folks, after a quarter of a century of trying to make it as a writer, I am finally packing away my pen, tipping the ink down the sink and unplugging my PC.
The years of toil and endless disappointments have made me re-evaluate what is important and locking myself away for hours on end in front of a screen is not.
A few sparks of excitement and promise have always been enough to keep me going - but not anymore.
I am leaving to join the real world. The taxi is waiting, I have turned out the lights and closed the door behind me...
So why do I not feel free?

because the compulsion to write is still there, John, and you will read something, some phrase, some beautifully expressed thought and think 'I could do that' and be lost again ...

Go and have a little fling John - you'll be back. The ink-stained fingers are with you for ever.
