Where To Find Submission Windows

edited July 2016 in Writing
Hi all, I was wondering if anyone knows of a regularly updated site that lists what magazines and anthologies are currently accepting short stories. And whether they can be set to a mailing list or email when a new submission window is open. Currently I just google whatever submissions plus whatever genre I'm writing and check writing magazine but I was wondering if there was a quicker way. Thanks

  • If you write speculative fiction or non fiction http://www.ralan.com is good. It highlights new markets at the top of each page. I don't know about emailing when new submission windows open. Wouldn't it be as easy to check the site regularly?
  • Hi Kayess, that site looks interesting like I said above instead of looking at several different publisher's site I'm looking for a centralized place that lists the markets.
  • Ralan lists the markets, giving submission requirements, payments, reading periods etc., much as Duotrope does, although Duotrope covers other genres as well so it might suit you better. When you find publications that look right, you still need to check them individually because what they want can quickly change, and it will give you a better feel for what they have already published.
  • This blog lists all the women's magazines which publish unsolicited fiction and gives links or details for their guidelines - http://womagwriter.blogspot.co.uk
  • You could try https://shortstops.info

I don't think they update according to submission windows, but there's a good range of journals, etc.

I can imagine it would be very labour intensive to keep checking who's accepting what and updating a website and sending out emails (even automated ones). It seems unlikely you'd find a free service for that, but if I'm wrong please let us know!
