Just found something the Daily Mail is useful for.
The item was about poor phone service by one of the major banks, but it also gives a list of phone 'cheats'- alternative numbers, when to stay silent, when to press 0 etc.
Worth a look.

Wish it had come up with a list for Australia. I am so sick of those recorded answering systems. Grrrr. (Should I have put this on the other thread?) Thanks Carol. Those cheat numbers should be really handy for UKers.
There's been controversy over the number of health centres using 0845 numbers, I think there was something on the BBC web pages late last year.
Fortunately our health centre still uses their local number.
