My nephew will be six in a couple of weeks and would like books for his birthday - so he shall have them. Can I have suggestions, please (preferably with Amazon links)

If you're looking for something with fewer pictures, Horrid Henry (by Francesca Simon) books are quite a simple, but popular read, though he is very naughty in them! There are dozens of titles.
Here's one!

Roald Dahl, too. http://www.amazon.co.uk/Slipcase-Fantastic-Chocolate-Marvellous-Medicine/dp/0140926526/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1385744478&sr=1-1&keywords=roald+dahl
Is he going to read them himself or have them read to him?
If he has a taste for something a bit older, one of the best books Jem enjoyed was 'Aquila' by Andrew Norris.
The Grunts, by Philip Ardagh, has just had a very good Telegraph? review. Great for boys.
I know some TBers write for children, but I think he might be too young for most of them.
