I've noticed one of my regular 'commenters' has been making questionable comments for some time now. I've always assumed he's just not very good at expressing himself in English. On my latest post, his comment could be interpreted as pretty rude so I decided I'd had enough and have called him out - quite gently - on it. I doubt if he'll even see my response, but I felt that if he is being intentionally rude, he shouldn't get away with it. I've checked a few of his comments on other FF contributions, and he doesn't seem to do it to them. I'm not going to read and comment on his stories any more.
Oh dear! One man seems to misinterpret mine but i think it's because he's not English. Another is just a bit thick. I haven't had any comments that make me feel uncomfortable. You're right to blank him. The alternative is having to approve every comment and that would be a chore.
Claudia and Lizy, you can just mark their posts as spam or delete them. It's your blog and up to you what you allow to appear.
Sadly there are spammers out there that make nice comments that seem like they could be genuine but they're just designed to lull you into letting them through the system and then can become spammy.

He's not a spammer, Carol. He writes a story every week for the Friday Fictioneers photo challenge and exchanges comments like the rest of us. English isn't his mother tongue and his stories are often quite badly written: not his fault. Buthis comments on my stories often sound a bit sarcastic/rude, which is why I decided enough was enough.
I enjoyed reading your stories/posts, Lizy, Claudia, Phots and Carol and have commented. I ended up staying with Phots Molls' entire podcast instead of editing my son's CV - it's well worth a listen.
As I said on another thread, I discovered earlier that it's been a ridiculously long time since I posted anything at all on my blog, so I really should make more of an effort. I've been concentrating on painting for the last few months, so that's my excuse. In fact, I've combined my latest piece of art with my writing for the first post of 2019 … ahem. https://seaviewwarrenpoint.wordpress.com
My blog has been neglected of late but decided to resurrect it with a view to it prompting me to write more regularly once more. A couple of posts on learning opportunities and their rewards. http://www.adbwilliams.co.uk/blog/
Carol, I have read you piece about using a prologue and have tried leaving comments - you may find it twice in fact.
Have added a short post to my blog about my latest piece in Great War mag. Currently working on a couple of pieces with a more upbeat connection. http://www.adbwilliams.co.uk/blog/
Wordy it's because you're on Wordpress. Blogger made changes to their settings some time ago and it meant Wordpress users comments didn't work. Thanks for reading and commenting.
Carol, in my settings, under 'who can comment' I have clicked on 'anyone', presuming that means anyone. Do you know if I have to do anything else? The problem with all these things is that the blog owner can't test how their settings actually work for the people reading their blog (as far as I know). As for all that 'information' that blogger put up about the changes they've made - it's just gobbledegook to me - so I've ignored it.
Claudia, if anyone can comment you may get spam comments making it through so you might want to set up moderation so comments don't appear on the blog until you've checked they're okay.
I have my settings to send me an email when comments are made.
Goodness, I'd never set up e-mail alerts in order to moderate the comments. On a good week I can get dozens of comments with the Friday Fictioneer's stories and I've got better things to do with my time. I have never received dodgy comments - and if I did I'd just delete them.
Samehere, Claudia, though 'dozens' is slightly overstating the case on my blog. I think you have to post on a Wednesday to get the most comments, and I usually take longer than that to be inspired. Here's this week's effort - written today. http://lizy-writes.blogspot.com/2019/05/the-sunny-side-of-street.html
