Thanks, both. I saw a little alien when I looked at that plant and decided that it might be fun to have a go at science fiction for a change. It would have been better if I'd had more words to play with.
Another inspiring photo with the Friday Fictioneers enabled me to rewrite a story I've always liked, so it's nice to give it another airing in a new guise:
Just read yours, Lizy. And sorry if mine was too near the knuckle for you. I based the story on my observations from when my mother was in a care home - and the opening sequence is taken from my grandmother's experience in a care home, so nothing personal I promise.
As soon as I looked at this week's Friday Fictioneers photo prompt I knew which old OWC story I could rewrite to fit it. My only regret was losing some of my favourite lines in order to cut it down to the 100 words.
Been finding too many distractions to settle to writing of late so decided to set myself a challenge for a week or two. Taking a random photo from my collection I'll look at the possibilities it suggests. Not my choice of photo so, although most will have been taken with an article or two in mind, some will have been taken for some other purpose. Maybe others will see a different way of using the image. http://www.adbwilliams.co.uk/blog/
Today's random photo was one I had already used on my blog but I stuck with it. Quite a useful reminder to myself, too, about keeping a first draft flowing and checking details later. Takes less time and needs less editing afterwards. http://www.adbwilliams.co.uk/blog/
Thanks for reading my story, Wordy. As for your jigsaw - did you find the missing piece in your box of random bits? Baggy - welcome to the select TB group of bloggers!
BB, I've been looking a my postcard collection with new eyes since you started sharing your journey to your book. Discovered one card sent to my father when he was born is actually postmarked for the year before I suppose 15 and 16 look similar and maybe the wrong stamp was picked up at the post office. A very clear mark so not a mistake.
Sadly, Lizy, that particular piece was not in the box. The completed puzzle is gathering dust beneath a spare bed in case the piece turns up. It was one cleared from the family home some years ago and some items are still languishing in boxes so it could still turn up. Aiming to add a new post each day depending what the random search throws up. It got me writing today. A draft report done for our local newsletter and a plan for the next stage of a project.
Only until the other puzzles have been made up and checked, Lizy. That piece could well be in another box. Things were packed up in some haste. As for the bed, it gets occasional use.
It is indeed, BB. His family seemed to send postcards for all sorts of occasions as well as holiday ones. Even used them to let family know they were coming to tea!
Carol, sounds as if you need to take a step back and recharge the batteries. Sometimes you can try just too hard and get nowhere. Hope all the writing meets help redress the balance.
My random pic today has sparked memories that might result in a personal memories piece and also reminded me to check out Apple Day events locally. Have attended some great ones over the years. http://www.adbwilliams.co.uk/blog/
Interesting, Carol. From what you have seen it seems there wasn't much consultation with or consideration for the end user. Maybe they should think about getting some feedback!
Just used another random photo for my blog post. Helps get the writing muscles in motion for the day. http://www.adbwilliams.co.uk/blog/
It was wonderful to have Carol at the launch on Saturday. Years of being friends through Talkback and now in person too. We forgot to do a photo of us!
Still keeping up the idea of using random images for blog posts to get my writing started for the day. Made me wonder what others do to kick start the day - or is it not a problem for anyone else?
I think it has helped me focus, Lizy. I never know what the random image may be and I then have to think of writing ideas around it. Makes the posts pretty random, too. Sometimes the pictures were taken over a decade ago so I have to think carefully to place them! The watercress beds image earlier this week was from 2005. I look forward to seeing what you find to link up with your books.
If this is any help I have added a new daily post. Doing it this month using random photos (not selected by me) to kick start my writing each day. http://www.adbwilliams.co.uk/blog/
Returned to my blog after a short break - what with packing up Irish house to come down to Spanish house - I couldn't think about blog posts. Anyway, I've written a story for the Friday Fictioneers photo prompt. I had intended it to be funnier - but sometimes things don't work the way you envisage:
Lizy, sometimes the most unusual things trigger a memory. Your 100 word story illustrates that well.
The random images are created by the photo section on the computer. It produces half a dozen each day. Some are images with a theme but others are related to the date picking out images from all years stored there. I am choosing in a sense as I pick one of the half dozen options randomly created.

Wordy, priceless heirloom.

My story this week is a true one - strange where an image took me this time.

It's been a year since I have blogged about anything. Here's this year's offering:
