  • I do this in Oxfam too.

    It's always fascinating to watch the difference in sales of the different genres when the students are around (sci-fi and fantasy are especially popular.)
  • I am guilty of people watching, dorothy - I class it as one of the 'perks' of working at a supermarket. Also, my latest philosophy is that I only go to work for a day off from my writing - at least that's was I tell myself!

    One thing I noted about paperback book sales is that even though you only save 38p by using the 2 for £7 offer, the vast majority of customers will go for it. Also, the hardback sales are minimal - even though we generally sell them at half rrp.
  • I don't tend to like hardbacks as they are uncomfortable to hold when reading. Unless I'm desperate to read it I'll wait for the paperback.
