(Writing) Help with description

edited March 2010 in - Writing Problems
I'm doing a poem and trying to think of a good way to descibe the smell of tomatoes (the ones you grow in your greenhouse). Any help would be great, I know what it smells like I just can't think how to describe it :-)

  • Frustrating, Emma. I would think you're going to have to think of something they smell LIKE. Something with emotional associations, eg. at Christmas time or on summer evenings.
  • In a greenhouse it is more the plants you can smell than the tomatoes themselves, but it is a pretty evocative scent nonetheless. To me, the humidity of the greenhouse makes the smell almost like that of wet grass but with a sweeter edge.
  • It's a musky fragrance with something warmly metallic mixed in as well. Hope this helps.
