Pictures in WordPress - help please!

I'm getting annoyed! When I insert a picture into my wordpress post it doesn't go exactly where I want it. I can't drag it around either. I'm using the free version and I can't find any help with pictures except on the paid for version. Can anyone help? How do you position a picture exactly where you want it within text?

I thought they just went where you placed the cursor. Must go and check.
I still haven't figured how to get rid of double spacing in text when I paste my poems on there.

I think my website is wordpress... to get mine where I wanted, I just put the cursor on the left of it, highlighted it, and used the thing which makes text go in the centre, left or right. Then when it was where I wanted (left, centre or right) I lifted and dragged it up or down the text to the exact place.
