Images for writing

edited May 2014 in Writing
Does anyone have any advice about the best way to go about finding images to use on blogs, or with articles? Obviously I don't want to infringe any copyright, and so far have been using images I've taken myself (which aren't always brilliant) for articles and have left my blog as mostly text, but I think it's about time I figured out how to find and use images. Is it best to pay for them? If so, which sites would people recommend? Thanks.

  • I never pay - I use free images of which there are thousands, although you do have to scroll through a lot of unsuitable ones. But why pay just for a blog?
    Google "Royalty free images"

http://flickr.com - type a search term, then click "advanced" under the search bar, scroll right to the bottom and you can filter by Creative Commons, which are essentially free to use, but you should always check which licence the photographer has applied. You nearly always have to credit the source. Some people restrict their licence to "non-commercial only", but a personal blog would rarely be seen as commercial.

http://www.morguefile.com - all free, just attribution, but slightly confusing layout of which results are the free Morgue File images and which take you to their [EDIT] paid agency multiple affiliate paid agencies
  • Thank you - will try these routes - appreciate the signposts :)
