Taking time out

Just returned to a novel after a month and amazed how fresh and funny it feels. When I last touched it I was struggling and thought it had got stale and dull but it's not - amazing what a little time out does for perspective...

  • It makes a huge difference, because you've put distance between yourself and the words you knew too well and so didn't see. Enjoy.
  • I find it impossible to judge something I've only just written. Sometimes I'm too harsh, sometimes too kind.
  • Yes, it's amazing how much you can see after a break away.
  • That's great, Datco. When I re-read my stuff it's 50/50 whether I'll be pleasantly surprised - or dismayed! :)
