silly question

  • If, in a short story comp they specify number of words, does this include the title or are these 'free' words?

(No! I'm not thinking of adding a 100 word title so I can squeeze more in, silly!)
  • No, it doesn't include the title. Except sometimes with the really tiny flash fiction stories where you have to stick to 50 words or less - then they won't let you get away with a 20 word title!!
  • I remember when in Uni (distant memory) we went to a session about the Masters dissertation we were about to embark on. (25k words) One student asked does the word count include the bibliography?  As if.
  • There is no such thing as a silly question - only a silly answer. And this is it.
  • Is it true that silly people always give silly answers?
  • Thanks folks!
Thanks IG - glad you didn't think the question was silly!
  • I didn't think it was silly either!
  • That's magic, our Stan!
  • Gotta be having a laugh.
  • That's our Stan.
