I just got paid for my very first children's fiction (any fiction for that matter) - a short story for an educational market. I originally wrote a report for them, but they rejected that because it was too difficult for the level they wanted. So I asked them if they'd like this story for the higher level readers and they said yes! I don't know why it feels so much more exciting to get paid for fiction, but it does. :P Excuse me, I'll just float away now...
