Thanks, Lizy. I was intrigued by the Lazarus Project and when it had five syllables I just HAD to use it. The fact that Basho's old pond is the most famous haiku nailed it!
Well, the world of blogging has given me pause for thought. I left scheduled posts while I was away, explaining that I wouldn't be active during my trip. Two talkbackers left some comments (thank you!), plus one other... and that's it. :-? This clearly demonstrates that my supposed 'followers' only comment on my posts when I reciprocate. I had suspected as much, but it's disappointing and I'm now pondering whether the energy I put into my blog is worth the effort.

As most people seem to reply to other blogs when they've made a new post themselves, I tend to use their comments on mine as a prompt to take a look at theirs. I also visit the blog of any new commenter to see what kind of thing they post.
I know we can subscribe to blogs by email, but if I did that with all those I look at my in box would catch fire.
Keeping up with every blog one has an interest in must be a full-time job in itself
Possibly your followers didn't realise you were going to post while you were away, Claudia
I did say that I'd be leaving a few scheduled posts to pop up while I was away - and I reminded readers that I was away in those posts.

Yes, I think this must be what generally happens and it would certainly explain why my regulars haven't been commenting. I'll have to get on and do heaps of commenting on their blogs over this weekend to lure them back!!
PM is right. I don't blog every day, but when i do, I read all those i follow plus a lot of the Friday Fiction ones and leave comments then. A personal blog fest!
