    At parents evening, quite a few of my sons teachers commented on their language skills, how effectively they use them, and discussions etc.
    I always spoke to mine from the time they were babies, and talked about stuff in a book. I adjusted to the level they were at, but never dumbed down my own level of English usage when I talk to them generally.
    If they come across a word and ask what it means I'll explain, and if it can be used in more than one context then I'll try and give examples so they can see the difference.
    It all helps.
