Interesting piece. I've just begun his new novel 'The City and the City' and it's not bad. Not bad at all.

This is why I've stopped reading 'genre' fiction, especially crime. I'm so bored with reading the same book (different author, different title) everytime I pick up a book.
As I've been writing my crime novel, something has been niggling me as 'impossible.' I think he has put his finger on it; it's the construction of the riddle itself. Maybe why I've been drawn to a more character driven story than is 'normal' in crime fiction.
