poetic republic competition comes round again
This is the competition I wrote about for Writing Magazine last year, and it is being run again. Here is the link
http://www.poeticrepublic.com/
It's really fun to get involved in as it's the only comp I know where you can read some of the other entries online before you enter, and all entrants get to read and judge the poems over 3 rounds, picking the eventual winner from a final shortlist of 12, and getting their own poem eliminated if they fail to take part in the judging.
Last year's standard was very mixed, but after round 1 and 2 judging got rid of some of the lesser poems, the winning entry and runners up were very good. Some of the entrance fee goes to charity, and the more who enter the bigger the prize. I even get a mention on the home page because I wrote about it all last time!

Eliminate most of those in round one, and we poets have a good chance of getting through!
I would like to enter, but will be away for a fortnight during the comp and there's no point entering if I miss a judging round and would be disqualified anyway. Any ideas?
The organiser says he has noted it down so there won't be a problem if I miss some of the judging.
So if any of you have entered (or are thinking of it) and find you have a timing issue when judging comes around, just let them know and it should be fine.
I'm sure mine won't stand a chance but it'll be fun to take part in any case.
A couple were clearly better (IMO) than the others, but third and fourth were hard to choose.
It will be interesting to see if any of them make it through to the second round.
Viv - is a list of 'second round' poems published after the final judging and/or are entrants told at any point how far they got?
There were a few I thought were a little weak.
The winner was the same person as last year!
I did choose her poem as top in both the second round and the final stage, so I think it's a good result.
Neither 'Escape' nor 'Siesta' were in my top four.
